NewMail is a small program for Win95/NT4.0 that stays
in the system tray and notifies you when a new e-mail
message has arrived.
Features of version
2.1:
 |
It's small, only 57K! |
 |
It can display a message box,
play a sound or even run your e-mail program (or
any combination of these) when a new message
arrives. |
 |
Displays a small mailbox icon in
the system tray. An envelope inside the mailbox
will be displayed when a new message has arrived. |
 |
It can establish PPP connection
silently in the background, check for mail and
disconnect if no new mail have arrived. |
 |
Supports unlimited number of
mailboxes. |
 |
Detects the number of new
messages, not just whether your mailbox has been
updated or not. |
 |
Checks for mail at regular
intervals. Two timers; one that runs when you are
not connected to the internet and one that runs
when you are. The switching between the two is
handled automatically by NewMail. |
 |
Asynchronous message system that stays on
screen until you acknowledge it, while the
program works in the background. Youll
never miss an e-mail message again! |
 |
No annoying window on your
screen (except when you edit the settings). |
 |
It can be extended with a cool rotating e every
time you get new mail by downloading the e
extension |
 |
It's FREE of charge |
Here I will list information about NewMail as I
continue to work on the program.Other useful information
such as the latest updates and status will also be listed
here.
Latest update:
First I would like to thank all those who sent me
e-mail about NewMail. I can't believe that there are people out there
still using this little e-mail checker. It hasn't been updated since
1997 and it was never spread to any shareware sites! It was only
uploaded to the NewMail site the day before I left the U.S. in 1997
and the distribution was handled by NewMail fans who uploaded it to
other sites. Thanks to you all!
Second I would like to apologize to all those who have sent me
e-mail without getting a reply. The response has been overwhelming,
but over the years, my interest in this project has gradually
decreased - especially since it hasn't been updated since 1997. The
main reason for this is that the source code got erased from my backup
disk somewhere between the U.S. and Norway. I didn't even think it was
possible, but when I was settled down in Norway and after a while
again felt the urge to continue the development of NewMail, the source
code had become corrupted... Every coder that has lost a large chunk
of source code knows that it isn't exactly fun to start writing the
whole thing from scratch again, but after a while that's what I
decided to do.
Unfortunately, after a couple of weeks I lost interest in the whole
project. So I apologize to all those who waited for NewMail 3.0 to be
released (the homepage forecasted a release back in August 2001).
So when will it be released then? Well, after working with Java for
many years now, I just don't feel like going back to C++ programming,
but C# looks kind of promising... But the project hasn't even started
yet, so don't hold your breath.
In the mean time you can continue using NewMail 2.1 FOR
FREE. It still works on all Windows releases,
95/98/Me/NT/2002 and XP! Those who already paid the registration fee
will automatically receive any future updates free of charge as
NewMail 3.0 will be released as shareware.

Great
things often come in small packages. For example,

an unlimited number of mail servers yet weighs in
at a tiny 55K. Click here to see the review |

Wow, it just sits there in
the taskbar and lets me know if I have mail or not. For a
v1.0, this proggie seems to offer a lot of options! =)
Not to mention it can establish a PPP connection in the
background, check for mail and disconnect if no new mail
had arrived. I love
that!! =) I bet you will too, if you get a lot of e-mail
and check it 12,239 times a day! ;)

Clumbsy E-Mail NO MORE!
All day, 24/7 I use up my nice unlimited internet access
by leaving myself online all of the time. And if you're
like me, you too leave Eudora open all of the time. But
it uses a good chunk of memory, don't you think? Well
this nifty program is TINY, and sits in the Taskbar and
will tell you how many new E-Mail you have, as well as
lunch your E-Mail program for you (If you chose it to do
so). <drool> All the features you could ask for! Simply
perfect, AND FREE!!!!
